The Bar on the lanai or a lazy Sunday afternoon

This is the bar on the lanai of my assistant's parents' house. It is made from an old fiberglass surfboard. My assistant has a dollhouse that looks like her 1:1 house. I made it when my daughter was pregnant with her hoping she would be a girl. I saw a surfboard at the miniature show and had to have it. We plan to make a table with it for my assistant's dollhouse. My assistant's dollhouse has many design innovations. Some like the swingset in the livingroom could be quite useful in houses in oh say, rainy climates.Others, like the BarBQ in the bedroom, not so much...unless you like to roll things. Like it and the buggy. Then you can see they belong together. Perhaps you would like to try a buggy vs. barbque race at YOUR next party. Sure to be a crowd pleaser. Each miniaturist brings his or her unique perspective on life to the scene. :) Happy Sunday C

The Universe, our Solar System, Earth, All homes, and all dollhouses...

I was amazed to own some of the

antiques in the book and had fun taking pictures of them with my granddaughter.

The book is beautifully illustrated and we sought to copy them in pictures.

Especially at this time of year we acknowledge the wonder of life. I am thankful my friend Redrickshaw showed me "Big Susan" by Elizabeth Orton Jones. It is a Christmas storey.

Written in 1947, before even I was born, the author uses the dollhouse as a microcosm for life. There is mishap and problem solving. It's about the relationships of love, helping, wanting, needing and receiving through a Christmas gift.

Susan represented for the dolls forces they do not understand or control. This is where the idea of Faith comes in. Whatever your religion or spirituality, may you have a Blessed Holiday!

It's Redrickshaw's stream on Flickr and she wonders if any people know this book? She is on her way through the snow to celebrate Christmas at her sister's. Jolly show! Merry Christmas!

Hard to say, The Holidays are speeding up...and the little cook seems quite pleased with it as it is.

Just for Fun

Little Go Peek

It's all in the eye of the beholder...

My little granddaughter came over to my house. She is very good and gentle with my doll house collection. Mind you, one of this child's first words was "house" and she'd point.

I opened the door for her to my Christian Hacker dollhouse and let her remove a sturdy, little, round hall table to play with. Then I closed and latched the door.

"The sheep" she said. At first I didn't hear her. "I want the ba ba black sheep", she looked at me.

"Charlotte," I replied confused. "There are no sheep in there. This is a house... not a barn". I thought I'd solved it.

"I want to see the baa baa black sheep", she practically wept....

So I unlatched the front and we looked in the house,

My, my. Sure enough there WAS a sheep in there! But she didn't get to hold it because it is made of glass and is an English antique and that was ok with her because she saw the sheep.
