April fools? NOT!

Shopping on ebaydeutscheland can be tricky. There is a wealth of dollhouse items in every color, shape and from every era. I start hyperventilating just thinking about it.

But... getting it to your little spot on the globe can be difficult. Many German ebay sellers restrict their shipping areas. Some will go as far as the European Union but for bigger items... not so much.

I had a friend help me or this dollhouse would never be in my collection. And I want to thank the brave seller who we wheedled into undertaking this,

Thats is why after waiting and waiting, when I drove up to my daughter's house and saw this

My heart sank to the bottom of my toes!

As I peeled away the soggy paper and touched plastic my heart quickened!
Thank heavens for plastic (sound of celestial choir). It made it.

To me German dollhouses are the top of the scale. In fact sending treats to my friend there is worrisome, like sending coals to New Castle.

From the earliest houses to the blooming of design that followed WWII is an interesting story.

http://www.puppenhausmuseum.de/ is an inclusive look at post war design dollhouses.

and http://diepuppenstubensammlerin.blogspot.com/

who chronicles the history of German dollhouses is wonderful. In fact, I heard she was a Rosetta Stone Award winner for her contributions to the history of dollhouses!

There is much to say about the furniture and dolls that live in these houses but that will have to be left for another day. I am so grateful to have mine!

I will leave you with this little scene in the kitching showing the 1960's detail of the flooring.

Oh my goodness, I can see that perhaps your heart could have stopped when you say that package! This interesting little piece has had a lucky escape from absolute disaster.

Hi NORMA! What is the farthest you've ever gotten a dollhouse form? The shipping was more than the item. C

I envy you so much for having the courage to get into the shipping adventure- I couldn't do it till now and I'm only in Israel.....
And ofcoures I congratulate you on the Vero!

Wow....I can really understand how you felt when you saw that "garbage".
I live in Germany and my dollhouses never had such a big journey when they came to me, but some of them really suffered from poor packaging, that's really annoying.
Your dollhouse seems to be in wonderful shape and I'm looking forward to see more pictures!

Congratulations C, I love that house, and much because of the wonderful flooring!

I've decided to concentrate on furniture and cheap houses I can transform without awe myself, but I love seeing dollhouse history gems like this on other blogs!
And the puppenstubensammlerin is really worthy of Rosetta stone Award, her blog is almost an encyclopedia of dollhouse history!

And of course, not buying expensive houses, leaves more money for lots of furniture ;)

Neomig, I must say this little adventure shocked me into reality. I am more realistic now. But it is important to my collection because of that wonderful time in dollhouse design. C

Hi Lilli, it was sent a year ago in one of the worst winters ever. It is sort of a miracle it made, it! C

Pubdoll you have put your finger on the dilemma. Your Limpeka blue room is one of my favorite transformations,

This is why I like making scenes. You don't have to have the whole dollhouse with every accessory.

Wow, how wonderful that the house wasn't damaged, it looks great!
I once purchased a cardboard house from a German dealer, and it arrived completely smashed, so I can relate!

Hi Rick. I know an antique dealer who once heard glass break as the delivery man threw the doll house box on her porch. It's a rough world in dollhouse land! c

... I love the idea of German doll houses traveling all over the world...especially such a wonderful Albin Schönherr house ...

Hi DPSS, Yes isn't it wonderful and they are SUCH a treasure. I thought it was an Albin Schonherr, thank you for identifying it! CM

I ordered a GeeBee Dollhouse from England. It arrived in perfect condition but it cost me more than three times the cost of the house to ship. Live and learn.
