My puppenstube

This is the dollhouse that made it all the way from Germany to me. IN WINTER, and a bad one at that!

This is the front. It is VERY intact for
a dollhouse of this age. Remember these were made as playthings. Toys. God bless the little girl who took such good care of this one.

If you compare it to the one from the Puppenhausmuseum, which is posted below, you will notice the front light is missing but the front plant is there as well as the railing. I am particularly pleased the plants in the window box are all arranged in the original way. I don't think I could replicate that. A few shingles are missing. The original awning material is gone, replaced by what looks like shirting material with glue spots. It looks carefully cut out but the gluing looks like the work of a child. I will post the back next week. xoxo C

OMG My MOM had this table

OK! This freaks me out. We HAD this table when I was a toddler!
I furnished my house in the 80's. When will that be back in style? Sort of the Ralph Lauren look leading into Shabby Chic? Hard core design is in now and I can't furnish my dollhouses AND update my look too!
I love how AMY of http://amysminiaturesandsmalls.blogspot.com/ says "I wear rags so my peeps can have the finer things!"
Ha sooooooooooooooooo true.

Bungalow from Puppenhausmuseum edited by Jorge Bohn

You can see the back of this bungalow too by clicking on the site listed below in resources.

I will dust mine off and blog pictures this week. Thank you to everyone who helped me with this project. Sometimes the survival of these old dollhouses seems almost a miracle. This one barely made it from Cheminitz to Berkeley.

Hooray, it's ok!

Did you know I'm trailer trash? And proud of it!

My 1958 Aljo travel trailer. Her name is "Cowgirl Heaven". She is called a "canned ham" style trailer.
This is 1/1 scale.

The funny thing is when I first posted this on flickr I called it my newest "dollhouse". The flickr censors replaced it with their kitten pics thinking I had something shady in mind.
Don't they KNOW dollhouse people?????? We're REAL Nice!

Everything is NOT black and white

"You say you want a Revolution" really we're feeling blue about now.

You say you want a revolution...

This is a college dorm in Boston in the 60's. OK so neat maybe it's a grad student. Where is that revolution?

All my makeovers are extreme!

Seen on ebay. What is this? Am I behind the times? Have I had my head in German ebay too long?
Is this from the show? A social comment?
Do little girls buy these to improve their scenes?
"Honey, Mommy bought you this, your arrangements need a little help?????" Do they get to demolish walls. (don't tell ANYONE, I do)
Let me know. C

That lived in look.

So I am after that real look, like someone used the room. A friend told me to look around my room and copy what I saw. Obviously I have slippers tossed on my floor.

Monster Heart Creepy Chenille By Pat Benedict

OK this is more timely.
Ever had a love/hate relationship? I do with chocolate.
I am at my daughter's house without my toys so I'm browsing Flickr. There is ALWAYS something there to amuse. CM also known as M2V.

Makes me laugh!

There are just some things you can do with miniatures that tickle me.
Well, it's a long way till Halloween. May I just say an early "happy Valentines' Day!" But I found this creation ot Woopitydooart so amusing I just had to share it.

Click on it to see more of her clever art!

Colette's new home!

She glanced around her living room and pinched herself to see if she was dreaming.

(Minimodernistas couch
Bozart lamp
child's rubber block, side table
German vintage chair
imported contemporary carpet)

As Colette signed the papers, the real estate agent opened a bottle of wine to toast the deal.

(Minimodernistas case bed and hanging pendant lamps
vintage American art deco chair
unknown wooden chest came with Strombecker furniture
Bozart art and vases )

Colette sat out on the grass terrace and looked around her and sighed. Then she got out her cell phone, made a donation to Haiti and said a prayer for all the people in need. Living in California, Colette knew "There but for fortune, go you, go I", lyrics by Phil Ochs

(antique German Korbi wicker setee, chairs and table possibly made by Karl Schreiter Co. 1920's Germany, from Curly Creek Antiques. Bozart wooden sculpture from Kalidescope House collection, contemporary imported asian garden stool side table)

Apologies for the cramped and poorly lit shots. I set it up on my bedroom floor to immediately start playing with it and need to put it in the right spot with wider shots and natural light.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Wes.

Minihouse 1

"This is in your price range," the real estate agent told Colette...

"The first house I want to show you is a fixer-upper, but it's in your price range..."the agent told Colette. Colette shuddered.
(1940's shingle style cardboard and printed paper house of unknown maker)

" This next one is a reach for you and there are already 20 offers for it". Colette gasped. It had the clean lines she loved. It was spacious and beautiful.

She could see herself living here. The view from the second story bedroom was incredible. She loved the livingroom fireplace, the free floating stairs, even the light fixtures. She had to have it. How beautiful would her Mini modernistas bed look in that bedroom. Couldn't the kids use a blow up mattress in the livingroom when they visited?
"You'd have to add the kitchen appliances, but you could create the design yourself" the agent continued. Colette was fine with take out. She had also always wanted a swimming pool but really there was no other house like this one.

"I'll take it", Colette decided. "Call the architect immediately", she instructed the agent.
"Well, dear, I'll put your bid in and we'll see"
Colette absentmindedly lifted a fingernail to her lips and started chewing.

Breaking News!

Colette has been found! She was located today in the corner of a room under a pile of clothing.

She is in good shape. Her purse is missing and she is covered with graham cracker crumbs.

I have asked her what happened but so far she hasn't said a word... (There was also some pencil scribbling on the Hacienda house wall and a little candle sconce was somehow moved to the actual stairwell wall in my daughter's house, placed low to the ground) The authorities are working with this information to find the culprit. So far no one is talking.

Antique dollhouse by Paul Keleher

Theory of Relativity

I am not a purist about scale in the dollhouse. I like to mix it up.

I think it also looks authentic to juxtapose different scales when making an "antique" scene because manufactured items were not as readily available back then and little girls used what ever they had giving the rooms a charming almost whimsical look

Marx, Tootsietoy, Strombecker. Shackman sofas

Wikipedia gives a very good explanation of scale in it's dollhouse section. I m trying my hand at it.

1/24th is usually the smallest, some times used as dollhouses or toys in a 1/12 scale.
1/18th or 2/3 inch scale where 1 inch is represented by 2/3 of an inch
1/16th or 3/4 inch scale where 1 inch is represented by 3/4 of an inch
1/10th or where 1 inch = 10 inches, this is mostly European, with measurement in centimeters
1/12 or 1" scale where 1 foot = 12 inches
1/6 or 1 foot = 6 inches Barbie, Blythe dolls

OK, we all know how important understanding scale is when we buy a miniature... I STILL make mistakes and end up with a perfect item in the wrong size.

Super modernism usually keeps everything in scale to achieve the realism that is so good it makes you ask, is this real or miniature?

Update on Colette: I still don't know her whereabouts. I'm considering calling Nancy Grace... I'm afraid Pubdoll might be right, and she's off with "the young and the restless"... I will "toss" my granddaughter's room tomorrow when she is at preschool. We did find the phone in her dressup box. The box rang.

Ich liebe duse Mobel!

Dieses kostetein en arm und ein bein! Warum, alleine versenden ein vermogen ist!

I purchased this wonderful chaise and decided to restore it.

The legs are not reattached yet.

If you recognize this, please let me know the manufacturer.

I loved the thick, celadon, woven material that covered this chaise. I can just imagine some sophisticated child saying, "this will update my old furniture" and I can see a parent helping her.
I could see the original material underneath. After debating what to do and because the green covering was unravelling I decided to remove it. I carefully pulled and tugged it off. Then I used rubbing alcohol to dissolve the remaining glue holding it to the couch. Somehow the adhesive under the originl covering was not affected. The original material seems to be silk and quite strong.

Because it is red, that is the main color I am choosing for the corresponding furniture I am collecting to go with it. My new passion is DDR furniture in the 60's 70's eras.
So I have discovered Babel Fish on google, I can translate fragments of language! Love it! By the way, what does "Caw!" mean. Caw translates from German to English as... "Caw!"
Oh, P.S. I'm missing. I mean my "Colette" doll who is my alter ego is missing. I will have to check with my 3 year old granddaughter. We found a phone in her dress up trunk the other day when it rang.

Thanks Pad'ner!

Wow! I got my second trade!!!! Look at this cool cowboy hat from Dana! Love it! Makes me want to drag out the Hacienda House! Look how well it is made. Thanks D!

Well, it's the new year and it looks like I need a new house. Jim and I split up. I'm not really surprised, he clearly had issues. I just chose not to see them... those photos from his wallet? I know the blond lives in Germany, the redhead in England, and maybe the brunette is named Lizzy??? To use a word Nabakov coined, this is just getting a little too "poshlust", so I'm moving on.

My daughter is leaving for boarding school in Switzerland and my son has decided to go to Middle School in Hawaii where his Dad lives. He always wears flip flops anyway.(Bozart)

So I'm online looking for a new house. I feel a modern style one would suit me best... I'm ready for a change. All the furniture is mine. To tell you the truth, I'm kind of excited. Jim always gave the WORST birthday presents! I'll keep you posted, xoxo Colette
